BOOK REVIEW – BULLDOG DETERMINATION by JAMES G. MAINA

BOOK REVIEW, LIFESTYLE, Podcast

The future belongs to those who are burning up with passion; those who are fully loaded with fuel; those who are unstoppable.

Bulldog Determination by James G. Maina

The organization I work for recently started giving books (read-gifts) on Women’s and Men’s days. I got my “The Leader Who Had No Title” by Robin Sharma copy on women’s day. This is a book I had been wanting to read for a long time. I will definitely share my review here once I am done reading it. I was later asked by someone in our HR department to review a book that was in the running to be given to the men in celebration of Men’s day. That’s how much I love to read 😊 . I am a book person. I read the book and gave my thoughts. Surprisingly, I don’t know what book they went with eventually. I’ll remember to check.

I read Bulldog Determination in one sitting and I must say, there’s some deeply inspiring stuff in there. The book’s tagline is: Combating tough times with unyielding mental toughness. Pretty powerful stuff, huh?

James G. Maina gives some really insightful tips that I feel will prove to be very useful to both genders in terms of making it in life and building wealth.

Below are some quotes from the book.

  • If you don’t learn how to hunt, you will soon become the hunted.
  • Expect challenges.
  • Don’t whine.
  • If you stay around problems for too long, it becomes your normal. You get used to it.

James gives 13 tips that he swears have worked for him with real life examples that I feel you should definitely find time and read about.

  1. Don’t lose your passion
  2. Endurance- Don’t lose your ground
  3. Be a fan of yourself- Set yourself on fire
  4. Action- Nothing moves until you make a move
  5. You can’t achieve it if you aren’t obsessed with it
  6. You can’t afford to be weak- It is the weak animal that gets eaten
  7. You can have what you want- If you really want it, you will get it
  8. Develop maximum momentum- If you lose money you might get it back. If you lose momentum, you will not
  9. Set your own deadlines
  10. Become unstoppable
  11. The posture you take determines the impression you create
  12. Dream big
  13. Everybody gets tired. Not everybody expires

The book has some really great pointers that have helped me get perspective on how to achieve my goals; especially financially.

The downside to this book is that it has quite a number of grammatical mistakes. I love to read and I notice these very quickly. Most of the time, I stop reading a book if it has grammatical mistakes. I didn’t do that with this one. I read it cover to cover. It’s worth checking out. After all, were promoting our own. Let me know what you think about the book if you get to read it. I hope you do 😊 😊

What Is the Worst Relationship Advice You Have Ever Been Given?

LIFESTYLE, LOVE, Melanin Awakening, Podcast
tmg-slideshow_l

Do you have those colleagues and aunties who you avoid eye contact with when in the same room because you know the next thing they will mention is your singleness and why you are the cause of that?? I do.

The worst part of having these people in your life is that most times they do it from a point of love. Their thought process goes like ……Maybe she has no idea how to keep a man. I should educate her…….. Why is she giving up just because he cheated once?……. Her standards are too high. At this rate, she will end up single!

You are not alone. Almost everyone who has crossed the 25 years of age threshold has been given dating advice by women her senior. I talked to my friends and compiled a list of the worst dating/relationship tips ever!!! Listen to my podcast on this HERE

Have you been told any of these?

  1. Do not show him that you are smart.

Apparently, men are intimidated by smart women. Is this true? The men here can tell us if this is true. Please do not pretend that you are dumb just to keep a guy or to get one to like you. Eventually, you will get tired of putting up this show. Believe me, pretending not to know much about stuff will drive you crazy. Do you want to go insane trying to massage someone’s ego?? No? Okay. You have your answer.

  1. You are too choosy. Lower your standards

If you have a realistic check-list, please don’t start canceling qualities that are important to you just because you feel that time is running out. I believe when God allowed for us to have preferences we were allowed to participate in making choices on who we want to be with. Do not settle for someone who has qualities/characteristics you are not sure you can live with. Also, keep in mind that there is no perfection out there. Remember, God makes everything happen at His own time- Ecclesiastes 3:11.

  1. Your personality is too strong!

If I understand the meaning of the phrase strong personality correctly, someone with a strong personality is able to get their voice and opinion heard. They do not let others walk all over them and stand on their beliefs without wavering. Does this sound like a bad personality? If he can’t deal with a strong woman, he has no business being interested in you in the first place. I am just saying.

  1. You are the wife. You have the house and the kids. What are you worried about? A little cheating??

Does this even need explaining? Someone staying married to you should not feel like a favor. There is no shame in leaving a cheating spouse, partner or boy/girlfriend. Don’t use your kids as an excuse to stay in a relationship or marriage that is already dead. If they love you, they will be faithful. It is that simple.

  1. Are you waiting to get to 40 then start thinking about marriage?

This never gets old, does it? Like I mentioned up there, God makes everything happen at His own time- Ecclesiastes 3:11.

  1. Get pregnant. This will bring the two of you closer

A baby is not going to make someone love you or put a ring on it. People stay because they want to. If they are manipulated into this, how long do you think it will last?

  1. Don’t introduce your partner to your girlfriends and female relatives.

If someone wants to cheat on you, nothing will stop them. Even when women make moves on men, ultimately, the decision is 100% made by the man. Men do not get stolen. They decide to be stolen 😊

  1. Fight for your man

If you have to fight to keep him/her, then they do not belong to you. Someone who wants to stay with you will do just that.

  1. Get out more

And go where? I always have this question in my head when someone tells me I will be single forever because I barely leave the house.

  1. Use dating apps

They have worked for people before. I’ve heard success stories. My fear of serial killers and creeps will however not allow me to go here. Too many movies? You think? Nah! Dating apps are a no for me.

Any bad dating advice you have been given that did not make it to this list?

We would love to read about it in the comments section below.

Melanin Awakening!!

Yaaaaaas! That is right. I just started a podcast channel and my first podcast is up. I know, I know. I am not your favorite person in the world right now because of my inconsistency in blogging. Guess what though? Podcasting is easier and takes much less time. Work is crazy! This means I get less time to talk to you guys. I have so much that I want to share and that is how my podcast channel was born.

Be sure to subscribe and share your comments on what you feel we should talk about. Looking forward to hearing from you.

TAKING STOCK – HELLO 2019!

CONFESSIONS OF A FASHIONHOLIC, LIFESTYLE, MY FASHION DIARIES, TAKING STOCK

We are finally in 2019!!

unnamed (1)

Are you excited? I am super excited. 2018 was quite the year. Growth, challenges, success, new friends, achievements and learning lessons. This is what 2018 was all about.

Do you have any New Year resolutions yet? I have a few.

  1. Work out more. (Already downloaded a workout App and all 🙂
  2. Eat more greens and fruit.
  3. Finish reading the New Testament. (I am proud to say that I am almost halfway!)
  4. Invest more
  5. Write more
  6. Get out more. (This will be a tough one. I love my company)

See; I have quite the year planned out. At the end of the day though, GOD’s plan prevails. We can make our own plans but it is HIM who has the final say. You know what? I know it is going to be an amazing one. This is because I trust him to answer my prayers according to his will; which is always with my best interests at heart. As Jeremiah 29:11 says ‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.’ Is there a better promise than this?

Taking stock

Listening to Nyashinsky. He is definitely my favourite artist of 2018. I might even have the tiniest crush on him 😉 I hope he has more things coming in 2019. I particularly loved Hello and Free. I am also listening to a lot of Travis Greene. Quite the talent there I must say.

Eating a lot of cake. 2018 has been a year for celebrations. I have had so much cake that I have gotten to a point of guilt. Talk about trying to get a flat tummy while eating cake on the regular.

Wearing a lot of suits. I had some time off in December and I had nothing casual to wear over the holidays. I need to restock my wardrobe with casual outfits. Seriously!

Reading Becoming by Michelle Obama. One word- INSPIRED!!

Trying to go out more. My friends tell me I will die single because I barely leave the house. I only use two routes when I leave my house. To work and back and to church and back. Except when I have to visit my parents.

Learning to work with excel. I used to hate working with excel. It’s actually kind of fun. You should try it.

Focusing on myself and my personal growth more. When you are the first born, you tend to worry about your siblings and parents and their well-being that you forget about yourself. This needs to change this year.

Wondering if I should cut my hair. I only do braids and the first week after I have them installed is usually torture. Every time has me saying how after this I am cutting my hair. Is it worth it? Still trying to figure that out.

Planning to visit at least two fun places every three months. Talk about peer pressure! Seriously though, I need to leave the house more. Can you believe someone sent me this meme!

Writing a book. Yes! You read that right. I started writing this book last year and it is coming on nicely. Just need to make a plan on how I will set aside time to work on it and probably publish it soon.

Loves, I pray that you have a great 2019 filled with God’s blessings, love, joy, peace and happiness.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

HELLO, 2019!

BOOK REVIEW: COMMAND YOUR MORNING by CINDY TRIMM

BOOK REVIEW, LIFESTYLE, MONDAY MOTIVATION, MY FASHION DIARIES

“We are the sum total of every choice we make in life.” Cindy Trimm

img_20161218_091037a

ABOUT: Command Your Morning is a book that gives its readers tips from a Christian perspective on how to command and control all the areas of their lives.

The first time I read this book, my life was in shambles. My career was stagnant, I had an ill family member and my relationship of 3 years had just ended. I was always upset and my life felt like it could not get better than it was at that point. I have read it three times since then and every single time; I get new strength and hope and learn to live my life to the fullest and in happiness.

POINTS I TOOK HOME

  1. Prayer works– Cindy Trimm insists on talking to God about everything that you need and await his answer and for his will to be done. In Jeremiah 27:11, the Bible talks about what God’s plan is for us. The plan to prosper us and not to harm us. Trimm encourages her readers to hold God to his word and see their dreams come to pass.
  2. Our words have power– Trimm insists that the words that we speak have a way of giving us what we confess. If you keep on complaining, life will definitely be tough. If you confess love, success, prosperity and good health, the atmosphere will work together and give you just that.
  3. Tell GOD what you want– Speak out your blessings and do not limit God. Always remember Jeremiah 29:11
  4. Think it and it will happen– Our thoughts have power. Think about the things that you want and tell your mind that eventually, you will have these things. Faith is a powerful tool to achieve success in all areas of your life.
  5. The power of attraction is for real– Put out into the atmosphere what you want your future to look like and it will come to pass. Where there is a will, there is a way
  6. Do not sabotage your prayers- Trimm goes to show how we pray without faith and end up sabotaging our prayers by wondering if our prayers will be answered and thus limiting GOD. Let God do his part without doubting him.
  7. Be intentional– Be conscious of what is happening around you and be intentional in everything you do. This is a sure way to achieve success.

SUMMARY: Whatever begins with God has to end right. Prayer is a powerful tool to ask GOD for what you want. Your tongue, your emotions and your feelings speak to the atmosphere and channel your energy and the end result is what you put out into the atmosphere. This encourages positivity and promotes the Power of Attraction.

I have read this book 3 times and I know I will be picking it up again in the near future because of the encouragement it gives me and the fresh perspective to life that I get every time I read it. This book is one of my favorite items.
