Welcome to my Podcast Channel + Changes and Changes

Melanin Awakening!!

Yaaaaaas! That is right. I just started a podcast channel and my first podcast is up. I know, I know. I am not your favorite person in the world right now because of my inconsistency in blogging. Guess what though? Podcasting is easier and takes much less time. Work is crazy! This means I get less time to talk to you guys. I have so much that I want to share and that is how my podcast channel was born.

Be sure to subscribe and share your comments on what you feel we should talk about. Looking forward to hearing from you.

This is our new name and I am super excited about it.

Tomorrow is my birthday. I stopped counting the years when I got to 25, so please don’t ask how old I am turning. Thanks in advance for the gifts that you will be sending. 🙂 🙂

Also, tomorrow is Father’s Day. Do not forget to make your dads feel special.

Love and Light,

We are finally in 2019!!

unnamed (1)

Are you excited? I am super excited. 2018 was quite the year. Growth, challenges, success, new friends, achievements and learning lessons. This is what 2018 was all about.

Do you have any New Year resolutions yet? I have a few.

  1. Work out more. (Already downloaded a workout App and all 🙂
  2. Eat more greens and fruit.
  3. Finish reading the New Testament. (I am proud to say that I am almost halfway!)
  4. Invest more
  5. Write more
  6. Get out more. (This will be a tough one. I love my company)

See; I have quite the year planned out. At the end of the day though, GOD’s plan prevails. We can make our own plans but it is HIM who has the final say. You know what? I know it is going to be an amazing one. This is because I trust him to answer my prayers according to his will; which is always with my best interests at heart. As Jeremiah 29:11 says ‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.’ Is there a better promise than this?

Taking stock

Listening to Nyashinsky. He is definitely my favourite artist of 2018. I might even have the tiniest crush on him 😉 I hope he has more things coming in 2019. I particularly loved Hello and Free. I am also listening to a lot of Travis Greene. Quite the talent there I must say.

Eating a lot of cake. 2018 has been a year for celebrations. I have had so much cake that I have gotten to a point of guilt. Talk about trying to get a flat tummy while eating cake on the regular.

Wearing a lot of suits. I had some time off in December and I had nothing casual to wear over the holidays. I need to restock my wardrobe with casual outfits. Seriously!

Reading Becoming by Michelle Obama. One word- INSPIRED!!

Trying to go out more. My friends tell me I will die single because I barely leave the house. I only use two routes when I leave my house. To work and back and to church and back. Except when I have to visit my parents.

Learning to work with excel. I used to hate working with excel. It’s actually kind of fun. You should try it.

Focusing on myself and my personal growth more. When you are the first born, you tend to worry about your siblings and parents and their well-being that you forget about yourself. This needs to change this year.

Wondering if I should cut my hair. I only do braids and the first week after I have them installed is usually torture. Every time has me saying how after this I am cutting my hair. Is it worth it? Still trying to figure that out.

Planning to visit at least two fun places every three months. Talk about peer pressure! Seriously though, I need to leave the house more. Can you believe someone sent me this meme!

Writing a book. Yes! You read that right. I started writing this book last year and it is coming on nicely. Just need to make a plan on how I will set aside time to work on it and probably publish it soon.

Loves, I pray that you have a great 2019 filled with God’s blessings, love, joy, peace and happiness.

HELLO, 2019!

Why I Have Repeatedly Re-Watched and Will Keep Re-Watching Being Mary Jane

It is finally Friday evening!! Where the couch potatoes at?? Most women have watched or at least heard of the TV series Being Mary Jane. The character, MJ (Mary Jane) is played by Gabrielle Union who I must say is my ultimate girl crush. How old is she again? That body right there is body goals all the way 🙂 🙂8-1

Back to why I am an advocate for this series so much.

  1. She struggles with things that most career women struggle with every day but eventually comes out a winner

She is a star and is excelling in her career. It, however, did not start that way. She had to work hard and prove herself in order to get to the top. Watching the wins she gets and the mistakes that she makes has enabled me to figure out how to fight for what I want and be successful without losing focus of the end goal.

  1. She has sabotaged most of her relationships- Learning lessons for some of us

Mary Jane can’t seem to keep a man. Have you ever met this guy who is handsome, makes you extremely happy, seems to anticipate all your needs, has his life together (career, finances, right friends, right hobbies), gives you multiple org***s, puts up with your family and supports you but you still find yourself looking for that one thing that might be a deal breaker? I have definitely been here.

  1. The fashion

OMG! The stylist really kept me on the edge of my seat with Mary Jane’s outfits right from Season 1 to 4. The work outfits, the casual ones and even the booties she wore on several nights when at home were really impressive. I have to admit, I have gotten inspiration for some of my really good outfits by watching this show.

  1. The handsome men

From Omari Hardwick to Michael Early. The TV show does not run out of handsome men to drool over. I loved the bare chest scenes and the come-hither smiles. I know this is TV and definitely not real but if I was in MJ’s position and had to kiss some of those guys……. Well, let’s just leave it at that. A girl can only dream, right? 🙂

  1. I totally relate with her

Everything that Mary Jane struggles with is what everyday modern career women struggle with. The anger outbursts, the guilty pleasures, the insecurities where love is concerned, the uncertainties of our career paths; this list is endless but I find myself identifying with her every step of the way. I also get ideas on how to deal with the issues that I deal with that relate to those depicted in the show.

  1. The friendships are awesome

MJ and her best friend Kara are definitely FRIEND GOALS. The fights, helping each other through breakups, the pep talks they give each other when down; who doesn’t want such a friend? Seriously though; women should start being better friends to each other.

Why men should watch it

Most career women will sometimes sabotage their relationships because they are not very sure what they want even when they love a guy with all their hearts. Men who feel that they do not understand what drives the actions of their women might learn a lot by looking at things from Mary Jane’s perspective.

They will get an insight into the things women struggle with (other than relationships) and become better equipped in helping their women navigate. Everybody wins. Happy woman=Happy Relationship 🙂

Have a lovely week y’all

What are the most versatile shoe colors?

We all need a pair or two of shoes that we can wear with almost anything. There are shoe colors that can be really constricting and there are those that you can wear with practically anything in your wardrobe. It is important to invest in a pair or two of very versatile colors so that on a day when you are not very sure of which pair to go with, the versatile pair will sort you out.

This is a very versatile color. Black shoes can be worn with anything. Very few colors do not go well with black. This is a pair of shoes that you will pair with outfits that have got all dull or all bright colors. The only colors that will not really blend with black are brown and pastels. I will also advise against wearing black shoes with an all-black outfit. These should be reserved for funerals.

Brown is another very versatile color. You can wear it with almost anything. The only color that should never be worn with brown shoes is brown. Brown shoes and an all brown outfit will not clash per se but will definitely not give you the fashion statement that you are looking for. Have you ever notice that brown sandals can however be worn with literally anything?

This is the color after my own heart. Is there a color outfit you cannot wear with beige shoes? Maybe white. But I think you can still find a way of making it work. Whatever shade of beige you have, this color can be worn with anything.

Is there a color that cannot be paired with red? I am yet to see one. I recently discovered that I can wear my red shoes with literally anything. Except red itself of course.

What other color shoes do you think are versatile? Let us know in the comments section below.

IMG_20170717_130922Anyone else feeling that the year is moving too fast? It is, actually. We are already in the second half of 2017. How are those New Year resolutions coming along? I hope you are making progress and that 2017 is all you dreamt it would be.

I am loving 2017. Full of ups and downs, full of changes- which are welcome of course, challenges, new friends and the feeling of better things coming 🙂 🙂

Listening to: Malaika by Nyashinsky.  Who else loves this song as much as I do? I am telling you this is a love song on a whole other level. Forget Westlife(No offence). The person that comes to your mind when you listen to this song- That is the person you need to be with. Trust me.

Another song am really loving is Willy Paul and Alaine’s I DO. I am not a huge Willy Paul fan but I have to agree that this song is a hit and I am definitely playing it at my wedding.

Walking: for at least 30 minutes every day. I read somewhere that this might be all you need to keep that stubborn extra fat at bay. Plus, walking is actually very relaxing

Wanting: to try and make homemade bhajia. I am starting to embrace making my own food at home. It is fun and you get to discover a lot of things. It is also very healthy. Prevents eating a lot of junk food.

Excited: about every second I spend with my niece. She loves selfies (that explains why we get along). She is learning to speak and it is so cute how she pronounces words.

Loving: Maureen Bandari’s 10 Ways to Slay. I downloaded this handbook the moment it came out and I have to admit that I have learnt quite a lot from it. You do not need a million bucks to look like a million bucks for sure.

Wondering: what the rest of the year has in store for me. Isn’t it exciting when you do not know what the future holds but the prospect of it being something amazing makes you smile and look forward to time actually moving very fast?

Trying: matte lipstick. I’ve always thought of it to be too drying. I’ve however changed my mind lately. A matte lippie always looks so dreamy.

Following: Ian Mussilli. This is a stylist I discovered recently on Instagram. I love his style. And the locks too (this is a huge compliment coming from me because locks are a turn off for me). Plus, he is quite easy on the eye 😉

Hoping: to one day own a Porsche- My dreams are valid!

Praying: for God’s divine healing for my mum who has been ill for quite some time. Remembering: to always thank God for the gift of life and good health as well as his immeasurable blessings.

Watching: season 4 of Reign. I loved Queen Mary and ‘the royal watchman’ together. Cute couple. Hope they end up together- can’t wait to finish this series, it’s kept me prisoner a while. Aren’t medieval time dresses so fashionable??- One of the reasons why am hooked on Reign.

Crushing on: Michelle Ntalami– CEO Marini Naturals. She is serious goals. Follow her on Instagram and you’ll understand why I love her so

Sipping on: Kericho Gold Pure Green Tea. This stuff is good. Clear skin, flat tummy, no weight gain no matter what I eat. You should try it. I heard it also boosts immunity.

Wearing: a thrift mini. I never really wear minis but you have to admit, this one is pretty cute.

Looking forward: to taking a trip to the coast in Madaraka Express. Don’t want to be the last of my friends to ride the train!!

Have a lovely Sunday evening and an amazing week ahead as we approach August. Remember to be peaceful and to pray for our country y’all. Whatever the outcome, we are still one Nation.
