“There are two powers in the world; one is the sword and the other is the pen. There is a great competition and rivalry between the two. There is a third power stronger than both, that of women.” -Muhammad Ali.
Yes, you can have it all. I know this because up until a few years ago, I never believed I could excel in my career, have a solid love life and possibly raise a family. I want 3 kids. Triplets if possible 🙂 🙂 I am not there yet but I know it is very possible. WHY? You ask. Millions of women across the world are doing it and they are succeeding. Is there something special God gave them that I was not gifted with? Definitely not.
I consider myself very successful in my career. I have gotten to heights I could not have imagined as I was starting out- God has been faithful. I was a bank teller at some point in my life. This was a 7 to 7 job. Imagine the exhaustion at the end of the day!! My friends and I used to joke at the end of the day and say “if I had a husband and kids, they would hate me so much tonight because I would refuse to cook. I would get home and just black out on the couch.” My friend would bring in her comment, “my husband would definitely end up cheating on me coz I wouldn’t put out unless my life depended on it!’ we would laugh and the comments would continue. At this point in my life, I was convinced that if I tried my hand at starting a family I would miserably fail. Man! Was I wrong! I currently have almost double the workload I had then though with friendlier hours and I know that I am able to handle it all.
I will give you two examples as to why I know you can have it all.
Janet Mbugua- Had a great Media career; founded the Inua Dada Foundation; is an advocate for women empowerment; has a great family with baby number 2 in the oven (or is the baby born already? I haven’t been keeping up) and is very stylish
My Boss- I am not going to put her name here because that would be invading her privacy. She is not a celebrity. Just an everyday woman. Can I just mention that she drives a Porsche’ and that I have also seen her drive a Jaguar and a Range Rover Sports car?? Yes. She inspires me. My boss has an amazing career and she works hard. She has a family with (am not sure of the number though I have met 2) kids. She is very stylish and looks like she has it all covered. He husband sends her flowers and chocolate on special occasions. This proves that she has a great marriage.
Most of the women I work with and those I have met over the course of my career are married. They are juggling work, husbands and kids as well as staying trendy and stylish among other things. All of them will tell you that it is not easy. It helps to have an understanding husband. You will definitely need a whole lot of support but as the saying goes, where there is a will, there is a way. If you are determined to have it all, nothing will stand in your way. I only have career and style currently. I, however, can’t wait to juggle these with family. I know I will rock 😉 😉
Your boyfriend should not ask you to give up on your career to start a family or move with him when his job sends him across the country. Find a way to make it work without you having to give up your career. Your boss should also go easy on you when you show up to work late because the baby was running a fever through the night. If you are a hard worker (if you are reading this you definitely are) this shouldn’t be a problem.
GOD BLESS YOU LADIES. MAY WE HAVE IT ALL!
